Live from Mexico City

/

August 13, 2003

There has not been much in the update side lately as I am in Mexico City visiting friends and family.

While killing time at the airport on my way to Mexico I picked a copy of the September issue of Wired magazine and found an article titled "The evil genius of PowerPoint".
What really struck me on the article was the fact that how if you are famous you can produce some of the most childish artwork around and still get it published on a major publication. Talking Head David Byrne has a spread in the magazine filled with the most uninteresting PowerPoint arrows filled with multicolored gradients. Don't get me wrong I think Byrne has done some pretty interesting work. I love Byrne's music, his photography as well as a book published a couple of years back that was designed by one of my all time design heroes Sagmeister.

David, if you are getting something published in a magazine such as Wired please don't be lazy. Put a little more effort into it. And Wired if you keep pulling crap like this, I will only buy your magazine for reading purposes and not for your usual outstanding eye candy.
