Ambient is a small company with a very cool web site, a small product (so far) and big concept.
As they explain in their website the concept works as follows.

1. Users define content based on their personal choices.
2. Providers direct filtered content to users based on preferences.
3. Users display content across ambient devices.

So far ambient has only developed a couple little lamps that change color based on a real data stream such as a weather forecast or the stock market, but I am sure that in time some of their more ambitious projects will come to life and then it will get really interesting.
