Shadow Recovery

Yesterday while walking in downtown San Francisco I noticed the amazing sky shown in the picture above. Unfortunately I did not have my tripod with me but even if I had it would have been difficult to set it in the middle of the street.

I took the picture anyway and the result was this.

So how did I get all the detail in the image you might ask? The answer is Fred Miranda's Shadow Recovery plug in. Sure you can use Photoshop curves but the result is almost always increased noise in the image as well as it would also be hard to keep the sky detail.
