Look Pa' No Hands!/October 27, 2003I spent the last four days with my father who was visiting from Mexico City. He has come to visit me in San Francisco several times but this time he came by himself giving us both the opportunity to spend some serious quality time with each other and talk for hours on end. A couple of years back when I was laid off and received a considerable severance package I decided to stick it out and try to make it on my own. I still remember telling my plans to my father over the phone and even though he was very supportive, I knew he was concerned. It can't be assuring to have a son living in a different country telling you he does not wish to continue to have a regular job. Since those days I have seen him several times but this time I had the chance to have him sitting in my office looking over my shoulder while I worked away, writing proposals, answering emails and putting out fires over the phone. During the chaos of everyday work I caught a glimpse of him for a moment and I saw satisfaction on his face and that to me is one of the best feelings I have had in my life. Photography |
