Moviegoer Woes/November 14, 2003
The balance has finally tilted, my dislike of the movie going experience is bigger than my movie addiction and I have concluded that a moviegoer I am not any more.
Many pet peeves plague my movie watching experience at the theater but possibly the biggest is the ability to get decent seats at any mid afternoon showing without getting to the theater at least 25 minutes before the scheduled time. Add to that 15 to 25 minutes of commercials and you end up loosing an extra hour of time doing absolutely nothing else than sitting eating popcorn twiddling your thumbs waiting for the movie to start. Talk about captive audiences.
Add to that the obscene cost of tickets, $9.00 on average in the U.S. (times two for the wife and I), plus getting ripped off at the snack bar around $15.00 for a couple of sodas and popcorn and about $8 for parking in downtown San Francisco. Hey my Netflix subscription is only $20 a month, for as many movies as I can handle. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there is something wrong with this picture.
