Online Gaming

January 21, 2004

Following the intense series of beatings I took while playing FIFA 2004 in Mexico earlier this month, I decided that radical measures needed to be taken in order to save face next time we visit.

The problem is that although I have owned a Playstation for a long time, I don't play videogames that much. I simply don't have the time. To be completely honest, even if I had a few minutes to play, the prospects of playing alone are not that appealing.

Fortunately, the game I'm interested in practicing has an online playing mode. The first thing I did when we got back last week was to make a quick trip to the Playstation store at the Metreon and picked up a copy of the game, a network adaptor and a headset to talk trash to my opponents.

So far my experience has been mixed. My broadband connection makes the game a bit jumpy, which I believe is because the connection is via satellite, a type known for not being optimal for playing. At the same time, I thought it was very cool when I connected for the first time and got to play and talk trash to this kid located in the eastern Australian shore. My connection type will be changing soon, in the mean time I'm learning the controls and practicing my moves and look forward to the day I can kick some butt across the globe.
