Lens-itis

/

January 22, 2004

Lens-it is: The bloated, sluggish and unfulfilled feeling that results from efforts related to the search of the perfect lens. The condition is known to affect photography aficionados like myself.

No matter what lens I buy, as soon as I shoot with it for a few days I find myself looking at photography magazines wondering what lens was used to shoot a particular image. I often find myself thinking, "If I only had that lens… my images would be so much better" Of course the rational side of me realizes this is a load of crap. What my images really need is for me to shoot more and improve my craft. But Lens-itis is not about being rational; if it were then it wouldn't be a condition.

However, I have set a rule for myself to prevent me from ending up as a photography geek with a huge collection of lenses. I will do my best to not own more than three lenses at any one time, a wide, a normal and a telephoto. I will only own the basics to shoot most situations and no more.
Anyway I have to run, there is some eBay posting I need to do.
