It is always interesting to go through my website referrer logs and see who's linking this site. You could say that inspecting referrer logs has no other reason or motive than to pat yourself on the back because "so and so" is linking to your site but in a way, "referrer browsing" is a great way to casually start a conversation.
Whenever I find someone's work interesting, instead of writing an email and saying: "I like your stuff, blah, blah, blah", I simply link to their site and more often than not after a few days the person will go through their own site's logs and write me a short note. It's the better, less stalker-ish version of finding someone interesting, then dialing his or her phone number and hanging up just for the purpose of having your number in his or her caller ID with the hopes of that person calling you back.

Speaking of referrer logs, today on mine I found: "Do You See What I See" the beautiful photos of yet another San Francisco Bay Area designer.
