Hello, I’m Jose Luis

I am a 28-year-old graphic designer / photographer / techno music enthusiast. I live with my wife and two cats on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay.

Treasure Island is an ex-US military naval base, the place is fascinating as most of the buildings are old and empty, the views are surreal (shown above) and its only five minutes away from Downtown San Francisco.

I am originally from Mexico City where I was born and raised.

At age 19 while in my rebellious stage, I left my family and friends, city and country and moved to San Francisco with my then girlfriend and now wife Michelle.

With very few exceptions, all of the images on this site have been created within 3 days of being posted. I try my absolute best to post new stuff, whether its good or bad, if its new it will be posted. Posting new images forces me to get out there and shoot.

I shoot digital

The images posted here are rarely posted straight from the camera. I think most of the time digital images look too perfect so I usually screw'em up a bit. I often find myself trying to emulate the look of film.

Why go through the trouble of emulating film instead of shooting film to begin with…you might ask. The answer is simple. Film is too expensive and takes too long.

If I shot film I'm sure I wouldn't shoot nearly as much.
Gear

I currently shoot with a Canon EOS 10D with three lenses. A wide angle zoom lens16-35 mm, a 50 mm lens that allows me to shoot with very little light and blurry backgrounds and a 135 mm for longer distances.

Prior to my May 3rd 2004 entry, every image was shot with an Olympus C-5050 which is an excellent point and shoot camera. I particularly liked the fact that the settings on the Olympus could be set to fully manual giving you total control.

Originally I started this website as a self-imposed exercise in discipline. I figured that forcing myself to take a picture and write something on an almost daily basis would help me improve an aspect of my personality that has always lacked, consistency.

There is no central theme to what is written here, it's just whatever I find interesting and sometimes it’s just an indication of my mood.

On the technical side, the site content is managed through Movable Type and small bits of PHP.
